Golf Tips from the Pro

Take Dead Aim:

I have a lot of students who come to me with all different problems, be it a bad slice or hook, troubles with their driver or putter.  When they come to me with these problems they are usually looking for a "technical fix" but often times all it takes is a little redirection of their focus.  If you have ever thrown a baseball or shot a basketball through a hoop you might be able to recall how simple the process is.  You look at where you want the ball to go and you make the motion.  So why is it that with the golf swing we need to micromanage the swing to the point where we think about every little aspect?

Harvey Penick, one of my favorite teachers of all time, had a saying "Take Dead Aim".  The next time you are out playing or practicing be sure to pick the smallest target possible rather than a general area.  Your brain will train your body to react to the last thing you look at and if that last thing is your target your body will naturally try to push the ball towards it just as if you were shooting a basket or throwing a ball.
